With gluten intolerance on the rise, and the number of those suffering from celiac disease growing each year, it was a relief to stumble across Healthy Creations Bakery! Even though they opened their doors eight years ago to the public, their story began long before that. I was lucky enough to speak with Alee Bagherian, daughter of the original owners, to get some insight into the business, and what options are available for couples looking to include gluten free options when getting married. Alee has currently been working at the recently opened Lakeshore location getting everything up and running!

Background on the Company: Healthy Creations was started in 1998, as a “made-to-order” business. In 2009, the organization grew into a commercial business, selling freshly made, gluten-free bread, buns, and bagels, as well as pastries and cakes for events. Many vegan options are also available.

What got the ball rolling?

In 1994, at only three years old, Alee’s older brother was diagnosed with celiac disease. At the time, this disease was not as commonly diagnosed, leaving the family limited options for breads, and desserts. A few years later, Alee’s youngest sister was also diagnosed with celiac disease. Wanting to make sure their family was receiving adequate substitutes to everyday items like bread and pizza, they took it upon themselves to create options.

Locations!

Windsor being the location of their family home, was the obvious place to open their first location. They can be found at 333 Dougall Square in South Windsor.
Most recently opened a second location in Lakeshore at 33 Amy Croft.
They also expanded into London, to bring all their delicious treats and gluten-free options there. In London, they can be found at 502 Springbank.

Best Advice for Wedding Cakes

It is truly up to the couple - the sky's the limit in terms of creativity. Healthy Creations specializes in the top tier of the wedding cake, as generally, it is the bride or groom who is gluten-free. However, they can make the entire cake gluten free as well. Another common option is a small cake for the couple, and gluten-free cupcakes for guests.
