Out-Of-Town Bridesmaids

Often as Wedding Planners we get asked just what the Bridesmaids should be responsible for. In each situation the needs and wants to the special couple vary, and therefore the roles of the Wedding Party may also vary. Traditionally, the Bridesmaids would help plan and pay for the Bridal Shower and Bachelorette Parties. However, times they are a changing! Nowadays, parents or close relatives may choose to throw the Bridal Shower - sometimes Brides even have more than one! It is important to understand as you are saying YES to being a Bridesmaid, that there will be financial and time-sensitive obligations involved.

Now, throw in the fact that some Bridesmaids may not live in the same city as the Bride - what do they do then!? Today we have come up with a few ideas to help those out-of-town attendants to feel included in the process, and a few jobs they can tackle from afar.

1. Research. Thanks to that nifty invention called the Internet, this can take place anywhere and anytime. We know it is tricky to be in a different city, or possibly different country, but discussing the vision of the Big Day can really make you feel close! We recommend even getting a group chat going - this gives the Bridesmaids a chance to interact for the first time, and throw out ideas as to what will work, and what will not for the Big Day.

2. Be On Call. We know this sounds like a hefty task, and sometimes it may be. Sometimes the Bride will need someone to call in the case of a breakdown and you can still be that person. Let the Bride know that you are always there to listen - that makes a huge difference, and sometimes all a girl needs is her Best Friend!

3. Favours & Place Cards. These two items can really be done anywhere. If it is possible, offer to take these things off the Brides plate. Even if these have to be shipped, you can feel as though you were active throughout the process! If the Bride is stuck on ideas for favours, perhaps offer suggestions of items local to you that could bring a new twist to the wedding.

We know planning a wedding can be tough, especially if you are the Maid of Honour living across the country. We can't stress enough how important you are to the Bride, and therefore keeping her calm and collected, letting her know that you are always there, is all a girl could ask for!
