Choosing Your Getting Ready Location

Hello Lovelies!

This is one of the questions I get asked most when it comes to Wedding Days, and I cannot stress the importance of determining a location that will accommodate all of your needs. I’ve broken down a few keys tips to keep in mind when selecting a location.

Proximity to Ceremony or First Look

Being relatively close to your Ceremony or First Look location will leave less-stress on the Big Day, knowing you don’t have to travel 45 minutes across down (+ not to mention the possibility of untimely traffic). As comfortable as it is to get ready at home, perhaps selecting a location closer to the festivities is something to consider.

Accommodating Size

This is KEY! If you have a large wedding party, and only a one-bedroom apartment, it might be a tough squeeze for everyone to be changing, getting hair and makeup done + trying to grab a bite to eat. Having ample space makes the hectic morning, seem a little less hectic. Plus, more space, means more room to breathe!

Enough Plugs!

If you are looking to have your Hair & Makeup come to you (which is something I highly recommend) ensure there is enough outlets to accommodate everyone. If it is possible, have hair in one room, and makeup in another to help to ease the stress. Creating a timeline of who is getting which service done at a time is also helpful in keeping things organized. (Can you tell we are big on lists here?!)

Good Lighting

Your Photographers will agree with me here - having natural light really sets the stage for your morning and your photos. If you are looking to hang your dress for photos, a large window is usually a great place for this (think a large living room window). Plus, natural light for your Makeup Artist is also very helpful! Try and stay on the main level, and not in a basement, if possible.

A few other Wedding Morning Tips we Recommend:

  • Order in Platters or Pre-make platters for both sides of the wedding party - no sauces and no chocolate :) Having food around is so important

  • Also have lots of Water and Hydration available, especially during the hot summer months

  • Have all of your Wedding Details set out the night before - this includes jewellery, shoes, perfume etc. to ensure you don’t miss photos of any special detail once your Photographer arrives
