You’re Officially Married! Time to Jet off on your Honeymoon!
What is the perfect honeymoon? Is there even such a thing as the perfect honeymoon? Well, here at Little Bird we believe that anywhere you go with your new hubby or wife - near or far - can be perfect. Let’s be real though, planning a honeymoon can be tough! For something that isn’t supposed to be stressful, it can definitely keep you up at night.
There are so many questions to ask yourself and your partner when it comes to planning your newlywed getaway. What is our budget? How long can we be away for? Do we want a cityscape or beach views? Where in the world do we even want to go?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we are here to help! Sit back, take a breath or a sip of wine, and relax. We have narrowed down the searches to some of our favourite local, Canadian and international spots – and have no doubt you will love them too.
Now, if you aren’t able to budget in a honeymoon or take the time off from a busy schedule, there are certainly ways you can make one night feel like a mini-moon. First and foremost, completely disconnect from the world. We know you’ll be itching to check on those sneak peak wedding photos, or thank those you love for coming to the wedding but that can hold off for now. Keep your phones off and truly take in those first hours alone as newlyweds!
Make that first night special. If you’re in a hotel room, order some late night room service like a chocolate dessert or something to hit the sweet tooth. If you’re at home, have a nice bottle of bubbly and a dozen dipped strawberries ready to go. Keep the lighting low and score bonus points if you can incorporate some tea candles throughout the place. Take the time to laugh, to talk and to indulge in one another! Surprise your partner and schedule a couples’ massage for the morning or plan a delicious brunch menu to cook together. Don’t forget the mimosas!
If you’re able to get away for more than one night but don’t want to go too far, you are in luck. The Windsor-Essex region is full of hidden getaways – some you may not have even known about! Our suggestions? Stone’s Throw Cottage located in the heart of Essex county. An elegant cottage that will offer you and your partner a few nights of total rest and relaxation. Plan a day trip to the local wineries, the beach or enjoy the sunset off the back deck together.
Additionally, Pelee Island offers a unique and quiet location that is only one ferry ride away! Although some activities on the Island are offered seasonally, if you can get there between the months of May-September you won’t be let down. Tour the oldest winery in Canada, eat ice cream while walking hand-and-hand along the water, and stay at one Pelee’s quaint B&Bs. You won’t believe this beautiful island is so close to home!
Craving a Canadian adventure but want to go beyond Windsor-Essex County? We would highly suggest the romantic Quebec City or the breathtaking Vancouver Island. Quebec City offers an European-like escape, without breaking the bank. Roam the cobblestone streets in Vieux-Quebec (Old Quebec), and spoil yourselves with reservations at the 1608 Wine & Cheese Bar located in the luxurious Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. It’s like eating dinner in a castle!
Are you and your partner looking for a bit more adventure and a little less cheese? Well, Vancouver Island will fit you perfectly. This spot offers an impeccable balance of romance and exploration! While you can opt to stay in one spot, we would definitely recommend renting a car and checking out as much of the island as you can. Start in the busy capital city of Victoria and make your way to stunning Tofino. The mountains, the ocean and the incredible seafood will leave both of you speechless!
Now, if you’re wanting a more traditional all inclusive honeymoon on a hot tropical beach, we are with you on that! After all, you and your partner just spent months planning a wedding so a little vitamin-SEA and a pina colada may be what you need. We recommend Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. You can score some great deals if you’re working on a budget, and not wanting to sacrifice on spoiling yourselves. Include a day trip to the romantic Lovers Beach and the two of you will be relaxed and feeling closer than ever!
Finally, if budget and time aren’t a huge factor when planning your honeymoon, you’ll want to pamper yourselves at the picturesque Island of Aruba. Look into one of the many adults-only resorts and truly treat yourselves. The warm sun, white sandy beaches and wild flamingos will make you feel like you’re living in a dream. Surprise your new husband or wife with an ultra-romantic sunset dinner on the beach. Trust us when we say, you’ll never want to leave!
Just remember your honeymoon isn’t all about where you’re going, it’s all about who you’re with. Whether it’s a night, a few days or a week away make sure to disconnect from the world and reconnect with your new husband or wife! Ultimately, this will make for the perfect honeymoon.
