Lose your Blues, Everybody cut Footloose

Holy Moly – we cannot believe we are writing this blog with only a few more weeks of summer left. Where has the time gone?! With all the craziness that has unfolded over the past months, it seems the new normal is finally starting to set in. We are so excited to get our boots back on the ground and have some wedding fun!

To all the couples that have had to postpone their dream day, and to the newly engaged ones who are just starting to plan it out – we are here for you. Believe it or not, while this time has been pretty stressful it has also allowed the Little Bird team to breathe a bit and put together some incredible new ideas! We are overflowing with passion, excitement and creativity for this next chapter.

Of course there are going to be some changes and weddings may not look as traditional as they once did. Just know that your day will be so magical, that all those fears or worries will seem so small when you look back! One part that will look a little different is your wedding reception. Typically, when you think of this time you think of a band or DJ blasting your favourite songs and a dance floor filled with all your guests! Sadly, this is one tradition that will have to be changed up a bit for the time being. The good news is, we have some fresh ideas that will keep you and your guests enjoying the reception like never before!

So, what can you do instead of dancing?!

Did Someone Say Movie Night?

Okay seriously, we kind of wish this was a thing even before! Could there be anything cuter than a movie night with your new husband or wife and all your wedding guest? Look into renting a large movie screen, or a projecting your favourite movie onto a wall at your wedding location. Play your favourite romcom, or maybe the first movie you and your partner ever saw together, or a classic 80’s flick that everyone loves! Invite your guest to be cozy and bring their blankets from home, sit back and relax. You can even design individual ‘bubbles’ for each family to stick to while watching the movie! If the weather is nice, host it under the stars! Make sure to pass out popcorn and all your favourite concession stand treats - ours would certainly include Peanut M&M’s.

Local Live Entertainment

A great way to keep you and your guests having fun is to hire some live entertainment! Look into booking your favourite local comedian or having an acoustic accompaniment play for everyone at the end of the night! Now more than ever we want to support local, and there is so much incredible musical talent locally, this is a great opportunity to help the community out! If you are hosting a family friendly wedding, think about hiring some entertainment that the kids and adults will all enjoy like a magician, an aerialist or even some traditional dancers! This is an incredible and safe way to showcase some things you and your partner love, while keep guests feeling safe in their spots.

Casino Royale

Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, or should we say Welcome to your Fabulous Reception! A classic idea with a modern twist. If you’re a couple that loves to take a risk and see if luck is on your side, then there is no better way to show case than bringing sin city to you. Rent some fun casino games like blackjack, roulette, Texas hold’em or craps! For a unique touch inquiring about personalized chips with your initials on them. Make sure to include some prizes for the winners, and leave your guests feeling like they were just in Vegas, Baby! Creating games to play right from their table is a safe and fun way to entertain throughout the evening.

Murder Mystery Night

Are you the type of couple who love a puzzle, and want to keep your guests on the edge of their seats? Why not plan a Murder Mystery Night. Not a typical wedding evening event, but, hey, these are new times, and things are looking different. By hiring actors to act out scenes that the larger congregation can use to solve the case will include all your guests in this fun event.

An Evening Under the Stars

Here in the Windsor-Essex area we are fortunate enough to have warmer weather a little later in the season, so this could work in the coming few weeks! Why not provide a little S’mores Bar for your guests, and allow them to stargaze on the property (if it’s a private property this becomes much easier). Adding a fireworks show is also a fun addition to the night, and a crowd pleaser for sure!

Just because dancing is currently off the table does not mean that the fun can’t happen. You could also add in cool lounge ideas to the evening - provide a place for guests to sit that is a little more comfy than their dining chairs. Enhance the experience by adding a live painter for the evening, personalized cocktails and fun dessert options. We are all adapting to the new “normal” and we are hopeful that these ideas really help some wonderful couples along.
